Lewisburg, PA - The La Salle men's and women's swimming & diving team traveled to Bucknell University over the weekend to take part in the Bucknell Trials, a two-day event. Aside from La Salle and Bucknell, other participants included Towson, Binghamton, The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and James Madison's women's team.
Junior Shannon Duval and sophomore Jessica Carbin achieved first place finishes on Saturday morning. Duval finished first in the women's 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.53) and also qualified in the women's 200-yard freestyle (1:54.04). Carbin achieved first place honors in the women's 100-yard backstroke (57.05). Duval's time in the women's 100-yard breaststroke and Carbin's time in the women's 100-yard backstroke are new school records.
The women's 200-yard freestyle (1:36.18) and the women's 400-yard medley relay (3:51.69) were two more events on Saturday that set school records. Duval, sophomore Alex Stoddart, senior Carleen Caldwell and sophomore Holly Biro took part in the women's 200-yard freestyle and Carbin joined Duval, Biro and Caldwell in the women's 400-yard medley relay.
The fifth school record, which was set on Saturday, was awarded to Biro for her finals time of 23.81 in the women's 50-yard freestyle.
The following men qualified in their respective events in Saturday's preliminaries: Junior Owen Black (men's 50-yard freestyle, 21.88; men's 200-yard freestyle, 1:43.42), junior Matt Caines (men's 200-yard IM, 1:59.88; men's 200-yard butterfly, 2:01.55), freshman Edward Carnes (men's 100-yard backstroke, 53.28), senior Chris Cefalo (men's 50-yard freestyle, 21.84), senior David Ellerson (men's 200-yard IM, 1:59.38; men's 100-yard breaststroke, 58.69), sophomore Dustin Gibb (men's 100-yard backstroke, 52.44; men's 50-yard freestyle, 21.87), freshman Andrew Gillespie (men's 100-yard backstroke, 54.30), sophomore Mark Glinski (men's 50-yard freestyle, 22.14), junior Brandon Hargraves (men's 200-yard freestyle, 1:45.55), junior Matt Harner (men's 100-yard breaststroke, 1:00.33; men's 200-yard butterfly, 1:57.25), freshman Joe Jung (men's 200-yard butterfly, 1:55.84), freshman Eric Patenaude (men's 100-yard breaststroke, 1:00.05), freshman Austin Thomas (men's 50-yard freestyle, 21.48) and junior Tom Whelan (men's 100-yard breaststroke, 1:02.47).
