After beginning the season with a 3-1 record, which included wins over city-rivals Villanova and Drexel, the Explorers embarked on a week-long road trip. The first road match of the season, outside of Philadelphia, took place at Miami (OH) where the RedHawks defeated the Explorers on Nov. 25, 63-50. From there, La Salle ventured out to California where they took part in the Hilton-Concord Thanksgiving Classic hosted by St. Mary’s (CA) College. Despite losing 61-55 to St. Mary’s (CA) on the tournament’s first day, junior Morgan Robertson achieved her third double-double of the season with a game-high 17 points, on 6-of-14 shooting, and a game and career-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore Ashley Gale followed with 12 points, a game-high three steals, two rebounds, two assists and a block and junior Jamie Walsh was the final Explorer in double figures with 11 points, in addition to four rebounds, two steals and an assist. On the very next day, in a consolation game with Radford, the Explorers defeated the Highlanders, 65-52, with the help of Robertson’s second-straight double-double of 18 points and 19 rebounds. Robertson, who set a career-high in rebounds against St. Mary’s (CA) with 13, topped her total the very next day with 19, which also set a game-high along with her point total. Gale and Walsh were the other two La Salle participants to reach double-digits, both adding 16 points respectively. As a result of her noteworthy performance, Robertson was named to the St. Mary’s (CA) All-Tournament Team.
Morgan State Bears (5-1, 0-0)

The Morgan State Bears enter this game after defeating American University at home on Friday, 57-54. Morgan State, who won their first four games of the season, is off to their best start through six games dating back to 1983-84. Junior Corin Adams scored a game-high 19 points in the victory and is now 11th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,040 points. Adams leads the team in both scoring (18.3) and three-point percentage (.516). Sophomore Erin Hawkins was the only other Bear to reach double figures, ending with 10 points, on 3-of-9 shooting, while contributing three rebounds and two assists. Morgan State forced 25 American turnovers, however, they were outrebounded, 49-38. On the season, the Bears are forcing an average of 23.3 turnovers per game.
Eye on an Explorer: Margaret Elderton
Prior to the start of the season, senior Margaret Elderton was named a captain of the 2008-09 La Salle squad. Elderton, who stands as the lone member of her graduating class, scored a team-high 16 points in a 71-57 home victory over Long Island on Nov. 16. On the season, Elderton is ranked fourth on the team in scoring (8.6), second in three-point percentage (.429) and third in steals (1.2).
Key Matchup: Morgan Robertson vs. Theresa Davis
Junior Morgan Robertson enters this matchup leading the Explorers in both scoring (12.3) and rebounds (10.0). In the past two games, she has reached a career-high in rebounds, and in seven games she has compiled four double-doubles. Robertson has led her team in rebounds in all but one game. In Morgan State’s 57-54 victory over American, sophomore Theresa Davis was one basket shy of a double-double, ending with eight points and 10 boards. Davis is third on the team in scoring (6.2) and second in rebounds (5.7).
