PHILADELPHIA - Former La Salle cross country and track standout Sean Quigley helped lead Team USA to eighth place in the 2008 International Chiba Ekidan in Chiba, Japan, on Monday. The decorated harrier ran the third leg of the race and completed that 10K portion in 29:00.
The Chiba Ekidan race consists of mixed men's and women's teams racing in six alternating legs for a total of 42.195 kilometers. Quigley - an NCAA qualifier and multiple record holder while at La Salle - ran one of the two 10K legs. The other 10K runner was 2004 Olympian Dan Browne, who ran his leg in 31:10. Also competing in the 5K portions were 2007 Pan American Games gold medalist Ed Moran (13:47), Carrie Messner Vickers (16:16) and Allison Grace (16:46). Tera Moody finished up the race with the 7.195km leg in 24:55.
The Explorers open their indoor season on Friday (12/5) at the Jack Pyrah Invitational at nearby Haverford College.
