Dec. 9, 2008
PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer program held its annual end-of-season banquet on Sunday and announced the team awards as voted on by the players.
Sophomore Ryan Tadley was voted on by his teammates as the 2008 Most Valuable Player. The defender helped lead the Explorer backfield in holding opponents to a 1.56 goals against average. He played a strong role in the defense that held then-No. 20 Charlotte scoreless in the second half as the offense did its job in a come-from-behind upset victory. Tadley took four shots of his own this past season as well.
Rookie
Dan Korenyi was voted as the Newcomer of the Year. Korenyi started all 19 games of his freshman campaign and logged one goal and two assists from the midfield.
Senior Andrew Bernhard and junior Gene Curran were awarded the Bill Wilkinson Academic and Athletic Award. Bernhard - a First Team Academic All-District selection - made 55 saves in 11 starts this season while maintaining a 3.77 GPA in his computer science major. Curran appeared in 12 games with nine starts and maintains a 3.90 GPA in the Integrated Science, Business & Technology program.
In addition to the awarding of this year's accolades, this year's brunch allowed the players and their families to come together to bid farewell to 2008 and the eight seniors that will be graduating this year.
