KINGSTON, RI - Led by 'Performer of the Meet' Rachel Papin, the La Salle University Track & Field women's team took fifth place overall at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships, held on Saturday, Feb. 16th at the University of Rhode Island. Charlotte took the team title, followed by Dayton, Rhode Island and Richmond.
Senior Carolyn Lipovsky (Edison, NJ) led the Explorers, winning the 1000m (2:55.14) and taking second in the 1 Mile (4:52.33).
Senior Rachel Papin (Philadelphia, PA) took the 5000m title in a personal best (16:32.14), a time which provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Track Championships and was also an A-10 and Mackal Field House record. Papin also anchored the winning Distance Medley Relay team (12:05.44), which also set a new A-10 and Mackal Field House record. Other members of the DMR were freshman Kathleen Boland (Drexel Hill, PA), junior Meaghan Hobson (Malvern, PA), and sophomore Kellilyn Fierras (Drexel Hill, PA).
Senior Christa Plummer (Quakertown, PA) took the 3000m race by nearly eight seconds ahead of the closest competitor for a personal best of 9:47.76.
Also showing strength was senior Adriana Boyle (Havertown, PA) who raced to a second-place finish in the 800m race with a personal best of 2:17.93.
