La Salle Radio Network Announces New Flagship for '08-09

Feb. 21, 2008

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that 1340 AM (Martini Lounge Radio) located just off of Main Street in Manayunk will become the flagship station for the La Salle Basketball Radio Network in 2008-09 and will be the initiating source for play-by-play of all Explorers men's basketball games.

"This is a great move for La Salle basketball and its fans," stated La Salle Director of Athletic Communications and 12-year play-by-play man Kale Beers. "We had a great situation with the ESPN affiliate for several years but with the change in their format we have been presented with the opportunity to re-center our signal into the city and try to build outward from there."

A preview of the forthcoming partnership will come this Sunday, February 24th when Martini Lounge Radio 1340 AM will carry La Salle's men's basketball game at Duquesne beginning with the Explorer Pre-Game Show hosted by Steve Degler at 1:45 PM.

Beers indicates the intention is to continue to look for viable affiliates to carry the games and broaden the reach of the radio network to as many fans, alums and supporters as possible who are spread across a wide radius of the Southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

"As a kid growing up in Philadelphia I remember my parents listening to two things on radio - Frank Sinatra and Big 5 basketball," stated Martini Lounge Radio owner and general manager Tom Kelly.  "I am proud La Salle has chosen Martini Lounge Radio to be its new home."

In addition to the over-the-air coverage all Explorer games can also be heard free of charge on-line at GoExplorers.com and complete, multi-camera coverage of all home men and women's games can be watched for a modest monthly fee through GoExplorers.com All-Access.  Reciprocation agreements with Atlantic 10 schools also make all video-streamed road games available to All-Access subscribers.  The addition of the internet audio and video streams which will enter their 9th and 3rd seasons respectively have extended the access to Explorer hoops worldwide and well beyond the limits of broadcast radio signals.
