Men Place Sixth, Women Seventh at A-10 Championships

BUFFALO, NY - The La Salle University men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the final day at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championships at the Flickinger Aquatic Center. The men finished sixth in the four-day competition, while the women finished seventh.

Sisters Megan Reis and Dana Reis scored the first points of the day for the Explorers, placing 15th and 16th in the 1650-yard freestyle. Two events later, freshman Holly Biro placed eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (52.90).

Sophomore Shannon Duval put points on the board when she earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 2:19.56.

In the diving portion, Tanya Lindenmuth placed eighth in the 3-meter with a score of 342.75.

The women's 400-yard medley relay team of Duval, Biro, Carleen Caldwell and Aubrey Cefalo placed seventh with a time of 3:32.29.

For the men, senior Grant Chin finished 12th in the 1650-yard freestyle to lead off the day. Classmate John Welsh later placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.06.

Freshman Chris Tiano earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.58) while junior David Ellerson placed ninth in the event (2:07.18).

Matt Harner scored points for the Explorers in the 200-yard butterfly, placing 14th with a time of 1:57.25.

The 400-yard medley relay team of Welsh, Ellerson, Chris Cefalo and Owen Black finished fourth, clocking in at 3:05.81.

Richmond captured the women's championship, while Massachusetts was crowned the champion on the men's side.

The Explorer women finished the four-day championship with 225 points, while the men racked up 332.
