McKee's Four Goals Not Enough in Loss to Colgate

Feb. 24, 2008

HAMILTON, NY - Sophomore Stefany McKee scored a game-high four goals and recorded two assists, but the La Salle lacrosse team fell in its season opener to Colgate, 14-9. Fellow sophomore Allie Venuti added two goals and an assist for the Explorers (0-1).

Colgate opened the game with two straight goals before McKee got La Salle on the board 4:41 into the contest. After another Raiders' goal, Erika Matthews scored to cut the deficit back to one.

McKee added two more goals in the opening stanza and Venuti netted her first of the day in the closing seconds of the first half, as the Explorers headed into the intermission trailing 8-5.

The Raiders doubled up on the Explorers early in the second half, scoring two consecutive goals to go ahead 10-5.

Sophomore Elizabeth Iacullo kept La Salle within striking distance with two goals in the final 15 minutes, but three Colgate goals in a four-minute span sealed the deal.

Senior Ellen Axelsen (five saves) and freshman Mara Schnellenbach (seven saves) both made their collegiate debuts in goal for La Salle.

Megan Lawler netted three goals to lead Colgate (1-2).

THe Explorers look to win their first of the year when they host Lehigh on Thursday at 4:00 PM at McCarthy Stadium.
