Complete All-American List
FAYETTEVILLE, AK- Senior middle-distance runner Sean Quigley (Braintree, MA/ Archbishop Williams) earned his fifth and sixth United States Track Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-American honors this weekend after being the top American finisher at third place in the 5K event
(13:54.05) on Friday, and running to a seventh-place finish (8:05.20) in the 3K event on Saturday evening. The top eight American finishers in each race garner All-American recognition.
"It's an honor to be named an All-American again, especially after running both events (3K, 5K) at the NCAA Championships," said Quigley.
Quigley has already been named a USTFCCCA All-American twice in cross country, and once each in indoor track and outdoor track. His two All-American honors today make it a grand total of six for the Explorer runner.
At the NCAA Indoor Track Championships the Boston native led the 5K with just two laps to go, but was passed in the final leg by two Kenyan runners as he finished in the third-place. Entering that race he had the sixth best 5000m time (13:50.76) of any competitor at the NCAA Championships. Last year he finished seventh in the 5K race. He beat out 12 other runners for his top three finish.
In the 3K event on Saturday, Quigley stayed in the middle of the pack before breaking into the top eight about halfway through the 15 lap race. With only two laps to go he had taken his seventh spot, and finished in 8:05.20. Arizona State's Kyle Alcorn took the title in 8:00.82.
Quigley will look to contend for national titles in the outdoor track season, which begins in April.
