PHILADELPHIA, PA- In a 4-2 week for the La Salle Softball squad, rookie shortstop Ali Shepherd (Philadelphia, PA/ Creative & Performing Arts HS) was named the A-10 `Rookie of the Week' for her performance ending on March 16th. The softball team has won three straight- all of which were ended early via the mercy rule.
Shepherd has been dominant at the plate all season as she smacked her second career homer, along with a double and triple against UMES. The freshman hit .294 for the week, and currently has the second-best on base percentage (.382%) for the Explorers. The Philadelphia native leads all La Salle freshmen with eight RBIs. La Salle is currently 7-9, 1-1 A-10 this season and has a combined .295 batting average.
Also of note on the diamond is sophomore pitcher Laura Beth McCreesh (Philadelphia, PA/ St. Basil) who stayed undefeated (4-0) with a win over UMES on Sunday. She currently has a 3.34 ERA.
Next on the Explorer schedule is an A-10 match-up against the University of Rhode Island on Thursday, March 20th at 12:00 PM and Friday, March 21st at 12:00 PM. Please note these are single games- not doubleheaders. The games will be played at Temple-Ambler.
