NORTHRIDGE, CA - The La Salle University Baseball team jumped up 2-0 on Cal State Northridge after the top of the second, but could not hold the lead and dropped a 16-5 decision, Sunday afternoon.
Mike Dertouzos gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead in the first with a bases loaded grounder that scored TJ Chism, who doubled. In the second, Kevin Jones hit a solo home run - his second of the year - to make it 2-0.
Cal State Northridge (4-2) then got its offense going with four unearned runs in the bottom of the frame, before John Rickards hit his 17th career home run to cut the deficit to 4-3.
The Matadors then scored 11 unanswered runs over the next five innings, as Matt Warr hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the third, and TS Reed knocked in two of his game-high five with a bases loaded double in the fifth.
La Salle (0-7) tallied two more in the eighth inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Shane Frangiosa and Rick Gehman, but it was not enough to help the Explorers get their first win of the season.
The Explorers will take a day off from playing the Matadors - as they take on UC Riverside on Monday at 6 PM EST - before finishing their series with Cal State Northridge on Tuesday, starting at 2 PM.
