Final Stats
TUCSON, AZ - La Salle University Softball (3-4, 0-0 A-10) got their first win at the University of Arizona's `Wildcat Invitational' as they knocked off the Creighton University Jays (12-8, 0-0) 4-2 on Friday afternoon. The win was the first this season against an opponent that has received votes in the NFCA Softball `Top 25' National poll f0r the Explorers.
Freshman Ali Shepherd (Philadelphia, PA/ Creative & Performing Arts) drew a walk in the first and moved to third on sophomore Mary Pat Conville's (Jamison, PA/ Archbishop Wood) double to left center. With two runners in scoring position, senior Michelle Sullivan (Gibbstown, NJ/ Paulsboro) came up big with a single down the left field line to give the Explorers a 2-0 advantage.
The Jays got on the board in the third with a double and subsequent single to score one run at 2-1. In the fourth La Salle junior Kelli Curcio (Hatboro, PA/ St. Basil) singled and moved to second on a bunt. Massaro then singled to right center field to score Curcio and put the Explorers up 3-1.
In the sixth La Salle's Shepherd had an RBI single to bring in Curcio and make it a 4-1 game. Late in the game the Jays put together a run with an RBI single, but Massaro got the last batter on a groundout as La Salle took a 4-2 win.
