Explorers Compete At Knecht Cup

Saturday's Results

CAMDEN, NJ - La Salle University Rowing put six boats into the Cooper River on Saturday in the first day of the two-day Knecht Cup, with one - the Women's Varsity 4 - advancing to the second day.

That boat started off the morning for the Explorers and raced to a third-place finish in its heat in 8:33.6, just six seconds behind Fairfield. They also were the last Explorer boat in the water on Saturday, finishing sixth in their semi-final heat putting them into the Third Final on Sunday, which is scheduled to start at 8:30 AM.

Also racing on Saturday was the Women's Freshman/Novice 4, who crossed the finish line in 9:11.9, for fifth in their heat.

The Men's Freshman/Novice 4 stopped the clock in 7:32.3 to finish fourth in their heat, the Women's Varsity 8 took sixth in its heat (7:25.4) and the Men's Varsity 8 placed fifth in its heat (6:28.8).

La Salle's Men's Junior Varsity 8 was just three seconds from advancing to the Finals of its event, placing third in is heat in 6:35.8. The top two boats and the next two fastest times moved on and the last team in was Maryland, who finished fourth in the first heat in 6:33.3.

After the Women's Varsity 4 race on Sunday, the Explorers split up next Saturday, as the Women are racing on the same river in the Atlantic 10 Championships and the Men stay on the Schuylkill River competing in the Kerr Cup.
