PHILADELPHIA, PA - For the second year in a row, the La Salle University volleyball and women's outdoor track teams have been recognized by the NCAA for their outstanding scores in the Academic Progress Rate (APR) for the 2007-08 academic year. These teams posted APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. There are 6,110 teams competing at the NCAA Division I level.
The NCAA is honoring Division I sports teams with public recognition awards for their latest Academic Progress Rate scores. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.
The APR was instituted in 2005 and is part of an NCAA measure to ensure the academic progress of student-athletes towards graduation.
The APR provides a look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.
