POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Racing against Marist and Army, La Salle University Rowing took part in the President's Cup on the Hudson River and the Women's Varsity 8 was able to stroke out a win to highlight the day.

The 2000m event was raced in a slight, but steady tailwind with a moderate chop.

The Women's Varsity 8 won in a time of 7:12.6, just three seconds ahead of Marist and six seconds faster than Army. It was one of only two races all day that the Red Foxes did not win.

Rowing in the boat for La Salle was Jacquelyn Smolarek, Lauren Corkery, Becky Mahney, Kelli Karver, Shannon Halleran, Michelle Kukawski, Molly Gatch, and Patrice Girard with coxswain Francesca Cupo and has been coached by Chris Dunn.

The Men's Second Varsity 8 finished its race in 6:38.7, as Marist won it in 6:18.4, while the Men's Varsity 8 stopped the clock in 6:53.6, as the Red Fox won that race, as well, in 6:22.2.

The Explorers' other boat in action on Saturday was the Women's Varsity 4, who took second in 9:56.4, again finishing behind Marist (9:33.6).

La Salle will return to action next Saturday and Sunday, when they race on the Cooper River in Canden, NJ at the Knecht Cup.
