Winter Garden, FL -- The 2008 Atlantic 10 Golf Championships came to a close with a lengthy third round of play Sunday afternoon that saw the La Salle Explorers shoot a 321 to finish 12th in the 54-hole event at Orange County National.
After a round two performance which saw four Explorers card in the 70's senior Chris Caimano was the lone Lasallian to break 80 with a final round 76 on the Panther Lake Course that played 6,827.
The team continued to be hampered by misfortune as freshmen Wes Licklider was unable to continue play after injuring his wrist on the third hole. The injury meant that the Explorers submitted only four of five cards at round's end for the second time after a scorecard procedure violation in round two.
The round marked the end of the career for Caimano who finished the three-day event with team-best 229 including a 75 on day one.
Mike Benzinger and Steve Sieracki each scored 81 while Phil Bruce wrapped up with an 83.
For the third time in as many years since joining the Atlantic 10 Charlotte captured the team championship with a total score of 837 which was 23 strokes better than second place Dayton. It was Dayton's all-time best finish.
The two teams also provided the top two finishers with the Flyers' Rob Chappell edging the 49'ers Cory Nagy for the individual title with a three-day score of 205. Nagy shot 206
