Strawberry Mansion's White Picks La Salle

May 7, 2008

PHILADELPHIA, PA - La Salle University head basketball coach Dr. John Giannini has announced that he has received a National Letter of Intent from Devon White (Philadelphia, PA) who is currently a senior at Strawberry Mansion High School which competes in the Philadelphia Public League.

"Devon was clearly an outstanding high school player this last year.  However I think he will continue to progress and be a really outstanding college player," said Giannini about the 6'8, 230-pound White who averaged 11.6 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots per game for the Knights.

"We look for him to get stronger and improve his offensive skills.  I think he is already a strong rebounder and shot blocker but as he learns the intensity of the college game he can become even more outstanding in these areas."

White was named second team All-Southeast Pennsylvania, second team All-City and scored 11 points while pulling 23 rebounds and blocking 15 shots in District XII semifinal game.  He helped lead the Knights to the Pennsylvania state final and is ranked by ESPN as the 41st best center in the country.

Giannini added, "Above all, Devon is a very nice and pleasant person who I am excited to work with."

White joins an Explorer team that returns four starters and six of the top seven scorers.
