PHILADELPHIA - Recently, two Philadelphia area media outlets caught up with two La Salle Baseball players - current Explorer John Malloy, who is playing summer ball for the North Adams SteepleCats, and Major League draftee Craig Muschko, who is in the Chicago Cubs organization.
Malloy went 3-for-6 last night with a double and two runs scored to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. He is familiar with this kind of success, as he owns La Salle's all-time hitting streak at 24 games.
The Explorer has been tabbed the Southern Division's starting centerfielder in Sunday's New England Collegiate Baseball League's All-Star Game.
He is currently batting .337 for the SteepleCats, leading the team with 34 hits, 25 runs, 45 total bases, 14 walks, and has a .427 on-base percentage, as he has reached base in every game he has played this summer.
To check out Malloy's progress, go to the Steeplecats website and to see his updated statistics, go to the NECBL's website - choose "results/stats", "2008 Statistics", and then choose "N Adams SteepleCats".
Recently, Bucks County Courier Times Sports Reporter Jenniger Wielgus caught up with Malloy which can be viewed by clicking here.
Catching up with Muschko was KYW Sports' Matt Leon, who interviewed the current Peoria Chief - the single A affiliate of the Cubs.
Muschko was the 667th pick of the 2007 MLB draft, taken in the 22nd round by Chicago after a season in which he led La Salle with a 2.95 ERA and had 40 strikeouts in 58.0 innings as a starter.
The righthander is currently coming out of the bullpen for the Chiefs, but is 4-2 with four saves in 28 games, and has 45 Ks in 54.1 innings pitched.
