La Salle Volleyball Receives 2007-08 AVCA Team Academic Award

Aug. 5, 2008

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recently announced that La Salle was one of three Atlantic 10 Conference programs that were honored with the 2007-08 Team Academic Award.

The award recognizes volleyball teams on the collegiate and high school levels for their strong academic performance inside the classroom.  Teams must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.

For the 2007-08 school year, 353 teams were honored with the award, which ultimately topped last year's record of 308.  The AVCA academic prize originated back in 1992-93 and ever since its inception, it has handed out over 2,800 awards.  Also cited from the A-10 were the University of Dayton and Duquesne University.

The La Salle volleyball team was also acknowledged by the NCAA for their success in the Academic Progress Rate (APR) during the past two academic years.

La Salle's APR scores were registered in the top 10 percent of all Division I volleyball programs.

The APR, which commenced in 2005, looks over all NCAA student-athletes in their advancement towards graduation.
