Philadelphia, PA- The La Salle University men’s cross country team has been selected by the Atlantic 10 coaches as favored to win the conference title in 2008. The men have won the crown in six of the past seven years. The four-time defending A-10 champion La Salle women’s team has been predicted to finish third.
The Explorer men are led by three A-10 All-Conference runners including seniors Korey Edwards, Ellis Wilson and junior Trevon Rainford. Key returnees include Joe Fedorowicz, Kyle Luke, Andrew Wagoner, Robert Ricketts, James Mauro, Sean Ward and Thomas Pannulla. Several freshmen will be counted on to contribute right away.
“Our men return a fairly decent nucleus, but most of the A-10 teams should be competitive,” said head coach Charles Torpey.
On the women’s side Kristina Kubula, Mary Clare Parrott, Elisabeth Mayer, Veronica Shanoski, Nicole Pearce, Colleen Boland and Kathleen Boland are the core of a young but confident group of championship caliber runners. Coach Torpey is counting on four or five freshman to have an immediate impact.
“We lost some of the best runners in conference history last season, but hopefully we can maintain what we’ve done for the last several years,” said Torpey.
The Explorers begin scored competition on Saturday, September 13th at Princeton University’s Old Nassau Run- set for a 10:00 a.m. start. The A-10 Championships will be held for the first time at Charlotte on Saturday, November 1st at 10 a.m.
