Elementary School Day at La Salle Volleyball Match

Sept. 23, 2008

On September 23, La Salle University extended a welcome to various area elementary schools to attend a noon-time volleyball game featuring the Explorers and local rival Temple. While the event was open to all members of the La Salle community, the focus was on the children who would spend their day cheering on the Explorers.

Over 500 students from James Logan Elementary, Joseph Pennell Elementary, La Salle Academy and Building Blocks Child Development Center were treated to lunch as well as the game.

The students, who were already ecstatic for the event, grew even more animated, stomping their feet and cheering as the teams came onto the court prior to tip-off. As each Explorer was announced, they tossed a t-shirt into the stands as an extra gift to the children, helping to further the overall great atmosphere in Tom Gola Arena.

The day was organized as part of the ongoing initiatives of La Salle's Project Teamwork, which is directed by Mike Ellerson. The next such event will be the annual Elementary School Day Basketball Game and is scheduled to be held prior to a women's game in January. Details to follow.
