Explorer Club Autumn Auction and Reception a Success

Sept. 27, 2008

Over 225 La Salle fans, alumni, friends and Explorer Club members packed Tom Gola Arena for the annual Explorer Club Autumn Auction and Reception on Saturday night, September 27.

The auction, which has become the Explorer Club's marquee social function, featured merchandise procured and donated by Explorer Club members. Funds generated from the event support the Explorer Club General Athletic Fund, which benefits all of La Salle's 22 intercollegiate sports.

The chairperson of this year's auction was Dennis Reid, the Vice President for special events for the Explorer Club. Reid also served as the emcee for the event.

Silent auction gift categories included collectables and gifts, sports memorabilia, entertainment and event certificates and sports tickets. Explorer Club board member, Kevin Davis, greeted guests and pointed out featured auction items throughout the silent portion of the evening.

During this time, guests also enjoyed a delicious spread of food including a carving station and pasta bar. New to the event this year was a martini bar, sponsored by Martini Lounge Radio, WHAT 1340 AM, the new home of Explorers Basketball.

The evening also included a live auction with gifts such as a one week stay in Ireland, an autographed Brian Westbrook football in glass casing and tickets to the sold out Phillies Fan Appreciation Day game. This year's live auctioneers were Greg Bruce, Dean Emeritus of the Business School, Kevin Davis, former Explorer Club Vice President and former Auction Chair and Dr. John Giannini, Head Men's Basketball Coach. Each of the auctioneers did a tremendous job encouraging attendees to bid on special items.

Next year's event will be held in September. Date to be announced.
