California Girl Keeps It Interesting

Sept. 3, 2008

With the loss of Kristin Hextall to graduation, La Salle Women’s Soccer knew they would be looking to a number of potential replacements for the goal scorer, who finished 14th in the nation last year.

Who would have thought that the location where Hextall’s family moved to a few years ago – California – would be the place the Explorers could find that replacement.

Sophomore Alex Conley – a native of Newport Beach, California – has stepped into a starting role in 2008 and has already scored a pair of goals and added one assist in two games. The two goals this season already matches her 2007 output, and is quite remarkable when you consider her footwear problems.

“That is a very fragile subject,” said Conley. “I love to wear a pair of cleats until they are literally falling off my feet. Then I just try and find other player’s to wear. I actually just got a new pair and I don’t like them and I am currently wearing Dani’s (Allizzo) old pair of Adidas.”

A recent sit-down with the California girl, whose career ambition is to “Make B-A-N-K” after graduation, reveals her uniqueness on the squad.

Q&A:

Why did you choose La Salle? Because of the soccer program…and I love the city – it’s far from home.

What is your greatest soccer memory (HS/Club/La Salle)? When I was with my club team MKSC, I scored three goals to win help the team win the league title.

Do you do anything special to prepare for a game/how do you prepare for a game? I listen to music, mainly 3OH!3, and that really gets me pumped up.

Who is your role model/inspiration? I really like Stacy Peralta (a skateboarder). He came from nothing and now he is a famous film director.

What is the best thing and worst thing about being a student athlete? Best is the team bonding; it’s like having a family away from home which is important to me because I live so far away. Worst is the schedule conflicts, trying to work everything in.

If you weren’t playing soccer, where and what would you be doing? I would be working on my band Asland’s Helpers and working on my keyboard skills.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  The soccer field!
