Shannon Duval Honored at Annual Banquet

Jan. 27, 2009

Cherry Hill, NJ - Among some of the most famous professional and collegiate athletes, junior Shannon Duval was honored at the 105th Philadelphia Sports Writers Association's annual awards dinner on Monday, January 26.

"Shannon is a great example of the very special student-athletes we work with at La Salle," said La Salle Swimming & Diving Head Coach Matt Nunnally.  "For her to be recognized at the Philadelphia Sports Writers banquet is quite an honor.  She is a great ambassador for our University and swimming and diving programs."

The dinner banquet, which was held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Cherry Hill, NJ, held nearly 1,000 people for the annual event. In addition to Duval, the dais included 2008 World Series Champions Brad Lidge and Charlie Manuel, Darryl Dawkins, Bernie Parent, Sheldon Brown, Ed Stefanski, Cuttino Mobley and La Salle's own John Giannini.

The PSWA, Philadelphia Sports Writers Association, was founded on May 12, 1904 and the first dinner was held on February 15, 1905.

The two-time 2008-09 Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, Duval has set impressive records this season including a school and pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke at the Bucknell Trials and a school record in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Duval has also helped the La Salle swimming & diving program to a top 25 ranking in the Mid-Major Division I polls earlier this year.
