FLOURTOWN, PA - The La Salle golf team finished 17th at the Big Five Invitational this weekend at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. Sophomore Randy Kurzinsky led the Explorers for the third straight week, shooting a 81-77=158 (+16) to tie for 66th.
Sophomore Tyler Batory tied for 84th with a 87-85=172 (+30) followed by junior Sam Venuti (91-87=178, +36, 87th). Freshman Joe Taormina (95-102=197, +55, 88th) and sophomore Jake Costigan (100-111=211, +69, 89th) rounded out the Explorers scorecard.
Campbell's Zak Drescher (67-73) led the field of 90 golfers with a two-under 140 and helped his team to the 2009 championship.
Campbell (297-290, 587) shot a six-over par 290 on Sunday, the best round by any of the 17 teams, to overtake first-round leader Richmond (293-298, 591). Yale, tied with Campbell in second after play on Saturday, placed third (297-297, 594) with Penn (309-291, 600) and Binghamton (306-294, 600), rounding out the top five.
The Explorers are back in action on October 19 at the Swarthmore Invitational.
