PHILADELPHIA - Through 32 events, the La Salle swimming & diving team captured 19 first-place finishes as they went on to defeat Drexel on the road Saturday, 166.5-133.5. The men's team has now won two consecutive meets to start the season and, with the win on Saturday, the women have picked up their first victory of the 2009-10 campaign.
The Explorers were perfect in relay competition, recording first-place times in the 400-yard medley relay (women, 4:02.73; men, 3:31.84) and 200-yard free relay (women, 1:39.05; men, 1:26.63).
Sophomore Emily Heath was the top swimmer in both the 1000-yard free (10:26.02) and 500-yard free (5:08.72).
Senior Shannon Duval, like Heath, was also a two-time first-place finisher on Saturday with top times in the 100-yard free (53.66) and 200-yard breast (2:21.50).
On the men's side, freshman Dan Fitzgerald placed first in the 200-yard free (1:45.99) and fellow classmate Zach Anderson finished first in the 500-yard free (4:50.57).
Men's diving was also perfect on the day with help from sophomore Leslie McGann's first-place score in the 1-meter (250.20) and sophomore Jordan Baker's top score in the 3-meter (246.75).
Other key standouts included: senior Owen Black (50-yard free, 21.95), sophomore Austin Thomas (50-yard free, 21.59), junior Holly Biro (200-yard free, 1:58.33), junior Jessica Carbin (100-yard back, 1:00.05), junior Aubrey Cefalo (50-yard free, 25.63), freshman Meghan Forlini (1000-yard free, 11:18.98) and freshman Elizabeth Jordan (100-yard breast, 1:08.04).
The Explorers will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 7, when they take part in their first conference meet of the season against Duquesne and St. Bonaventure in Buffalo, NY.
