Richter Earns Second Team Academic All-District Honors

Oct. 31, 2009

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle men's soccer junior Ryan Richter (Southampton, PA/William Tennent) was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team by a vote of participating sports information directors.

Richter, a marketing major who carries a 3.44 GPA, has had a terrific season on the pitch. He registered six goals and assisted on five others for a team-leading 17 points. His 17 points puts him at fifth in the Atlantic 10 Conference, and he also leads the conference in shots taken with 55.

Richter was named to the City of Pittsburgh Invitational All-Tournament team in September after leading the Explorers to two straight shutout wins for the tournament title. He scored the game winning goal in La Salle's 2-0 win over Big East opponent Pittsburgh.

In the Explorers' 4-0 rout of Navy, he scored one goal and assisted on another. Ten days later, he assisted on two of the three goals that La Salle scored in a four-minute span against Marist and added a goal later in the game to put the game out of reach for the Red Foxes.

Richter registered another four-point game against Richmond on Oct. 18, as he punched in two goals including the equalizer with just 1:22 remaining to force overtime and an eventual tie.

Prior to this season, he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team two years ago after leading the 2007 Explorers with 12 points on five goals and two assists.

Richter and the rest of the Explorers return to action on Sunday (11/1) as they host Saint Joseph's in the final home game of 2009 at 1:00 PM.
