Explorers Dig For A Cure

Oct. 7, 2009

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle volleyball team will be taking part in the annual "Dig for the Cure" event on Saturday, Oct. 17 when they take on Fordham at Tom Gola Arena at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Each Explorer on the volleyball team will be accepting pledges and upfront donations for each dig that is accumulated over the course of the match. All proceeds will go directly to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

"Recently, I had several close friends who were diagnosed with breast cancer," said La Salle head coach Dave Stever. "I think the [Susan G. Komen for the Cure] foundation is a great idea. Hopefully one day, foundations like this, along with donations, will lead to a cure."

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded in 1982 by Nancy G. Brinker after her sister's battle with breast cancer. It is the "global leader of the breast cancer movement" and it has invested over $1 billion since its origin.
