PHILADELPHIA - Austin Johnson (Avalon, NJ/Middle Twp. HS) earned his second Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor and Ryan Richter (Southampton, PA/William Tennent) was the named the Soccer Six Co-Player of the Week following a 2-0 weekend for the Explorers.
Johnson picked up the rookie of the week honor for his game-winning goal on Friday night to lift the Explorers past crosstown foe Temple 1-0 in double overtime. Johnson's goal was his third of the season, and was his second game winner. His other game winner was in La Salle's 4-0 win over Navy on Sept. 23.
Johnson has seen playing time in all 18 games this season. He has six points on 14 shots taken, including a team-leading four shots on Friday against Temple.
Richter put together his third four-point game of the season with a goal and two helpers against Saint Joseph's on Sunday to earn Soccer Six Co-Player of the Week honors. He is credited with the game-winning goal in the Explorers 5-1 rout of the Hawks. Richter had four shots in goal in five shots attempted in his 181 minutes this weekend.
Richter currently leads the Atlantic 10 in shots taken, is tied for first in assists and tied for fifth in goals scored. He leads the Soccer Six in points with 21 on seven goals and seven assists.
Johnson, Richter, and the rest of the Explorers have one game remaining as they head to the Bronx to take on Fordham at 1:00 PM.
