Student-Athletes of the Week: Tyler Jones and Caitlin Storbeck

Nov. 4, 2009

PHILADELPHIA - Sophomores Tyler Jones and Caitlin Storbeck were voted as the La Salle Student-Athletes of the Week by the Office of Athletic Communications for their performances at the Atlantic 10 Championships in St. Louis last weekend.

Jones led the men's team to fourth place in the team standings at the A-10's with an All-Conference performance. He snagged 13th place individually out of 141 runners with a time of 27:12.0 on the 8K course, less than a minute off of the winning time of 26:13.3.

Tyler Jones
Jones has consistently been La Salle's top runner on a team currently ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic regional poll. The Explorers were in the midst of a strong field at the A-10's, as Saint Joseph's, UMass and Dayton (Nos. 1, 2 and 3 in the league championship) are also ranked regionally. The Explorers topped Temple and Charlotte, also ranked.

Storbeck also picked up the first all-conference honors of her career as she bounced back from last year's mid-race injury to place 14th in the conference. She clocked a 20:32.3 in the 5K race, within a minute of the second place time, to lead the Explorer women to fifth place in the team standings.

Storbeck also leads a ranked squad, as the Explorer women are currently ranked 10th in the Mid-Atlantic region. They are the highest ranked Atlantic 10 school in the region, ahead of No. 12 Saint Joseph's and No. 13 George Washington.

Jones, Storbeck, and the rest of the Explorers return to the course on Saturday, Nov. 14th, when they head to Princess Anne, MD, for the NCAA Regional meet.
