La Salle To Induct Five Into Hall Of Athletes

PHILADELPHIA - Four former athletes and a head coach will be inducted into the La Salle University Hall of Athletes, it was announced today by the La Salle Alumni Association and the Athletic Department. Former men's and women's basketball coach William "Speedy" Morris and athletes Kerri McGahey '93, Jennifer Zenszer Ngo '01, Sheila Klick `04 and Todd Witzleben `04 will be recognized at halftime of the men's basketball game on January 23, 2010 versus Charlotte. A post-game reception and the induction program will follow at the Blue and Gold Commons on La Salle's campus at approximately 4:30 PM.

Morris spent 15 seasons as the head men's basketball coach of the Explorers (1986-01), compiling a school-record 238 wins. His teams reached the postseason six times, including four NCAA appearances, and won four MAAC Championships. His best season came in 1989-90, when he and National Player of the Year Lionel Simmons led La Salle to a 30-2 record and a #12 ranking in the final Associated Press poll. He also compiled a 43-17 record as La Salle's women's basketball coach, winning the MAAC Championship and reaching the NCAA Tournament in 1986. Morris will also be inducted into the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame in 2010.

McGahey, a four-year letter-winner in softball and field hockey, is the all-time leader in RBI (115), fourth in runs scored (94) and fifth in home runs (11). She batted .336 with five homers and 44 RBI to lead the Explorers to the 1992 MAAC Championship. During her softball career, La Salle posted a 116-74 record. She joins her sister, Kathy, as the first pair of sisters to be inducted into the La Salle Hall of Athletes.

Zenszer Ngo, who was inducted into the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame in 2006 as a women's basketball player, was a Verizon Academic All-American as a senior in 2001. She earned All-Philadelphia Big 5 honors three times in her career and scored 1,290 points, which was good for 10th on the all-time list when she graduated. Zenszer Ngo ranks second all-time at La Salle in career three point field goals (174) and fourth in three point field goals in a season (61).

Klick won the Atlantic 10 Cross Country individual title in 2002 and 2003, becoming only the fourth female to win a pair of A-10 championships, and also helped the Explorers to two A-10 team titles during her career. She also qualified for the 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championship, finishing 77th in the field of 252 runners. On the track, she was named the Most Outstanding Female Performer of the 2002 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship after winning the mile, finishing second in the 3,000m and running a leg of the winning 4x800 relay. She is the school record holder in the mile and indoor 3,000m and was a member of three-record setting relay teams.

Witzleben won the Atlantic 10 Cross Country individual title in 2001 and 2002, becoming the fifth male to win consecutive A-10 titles. A two-time NCAA Cross Country Championship qualifier, he helped the Explorers win three Atlantic 10 titles in 1999, 2001 and 2002. On the track, he won the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2003 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track Championship and holds the school record in both events. He was a Verizon Academic All-American and earned La Salle's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in 2004. Witzleben is currently an assistant cross country and track and field coach at La Salle.
