Rainford and Wagoner Named Academic All-Area

Dec. 29, 2009

PHILADELPHIA - Senior cross country runners Trevon Rainford and Andrew Wagoner added another accolade to their respective resumes as both were named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team. The team, which consists of student-athletes in all divisions of city schools, requires a minimum 3.0 grade point average and is voted on by the Philly area sports information directors.

Rainford finished an accomplished cross country career on 20th and Olney this season. He was one of the top two runners on the squad that placed fourth in the Atlantic 10 championship in 2009. In 2008, he earned NCAA All-District honors for his top-25 finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional meet. Rainford is also a two-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection. The marketing major was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team for the 2008 season.

Wagoner concluded his running career this season as well, and has been a constant on several all-academic teams. This marks his second year on the Academic All-Area team as he boasts the second-highest GPA of those voted on to this year's team. The Philosophy major was also a 2008 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference selection after running to a 46th place individual finish last year.

Both seniors are now preparing for the indoor track and field season. Rainford, Wagoner and the rest of the squad are back in action on Friday, Jan. 8, when they split time between the Met Coaches Invitational at the Armory in New York City and the University of Delaware Invitational.
