Saturday's Finals
The La Salle men's and women's swimming & diving team completed the final day of the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday. The men finished in seventh place with 313 points and the women finished in fifth place with 388.5 points.
During Saturday's finals, three La Salle school records were set. The records included the women's 400-yard freestyle relay (sophomore Holly Biro, senior Carleen Caldwell, junior Shannon Duval, sophomore Aubrey Cefalo; 3:29.84; fifth place), the women's 200-yard breaststroke (Duval; 2:14.76; second place) and the women's 100-yard freestyle (Biro; 51.95; eighth place).
Junior Dana Reis picked up third place honors in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:12.03) and senior David Ellerson finished fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.90).
Both junior Brittany Sedberry and freshman Joe Jung rounded out in the A-Championship in their respective events. Sedberry finished seventh in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.79) and Jung finished sixth in the same event (1:52.50).
Sophomore Jessica Carbin picked up ninth place honors in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.64.
Finishing in the 200-yard backstroke's B-Consolation on Saturday night included junior Kellene McCall and sophomore Alex Stoddart. McCall ended in 12th (2:05.43) and Stoddart followed up in 16th (2:08.08).
Saturday’s Preliminaries
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Duval placed first (2:14.64) and freshman Emily Heath followed up in sixth (2:21.45). Duval’s time in the event set an Atlantic 10 record.
In the men’s 200-yard breaststroke, Ellerson finished in eighth place with a time of 2:07.18 and freshman Eric Patenaude placed right behind Ellerson in ninth (2:07.54).
Biro rounded out in sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (51.72) and in the men’s 100-yard freestyle, three Explorers qualified. They included junior Owen Black (46.54; 10th), sophomore Dustin Gibb (46.80; 14th) and freshman Austin Thomas (46.98; 16th).
In the 200-yard freestyle Sedberry qualified, finishing in fifth with a time of 2:05.17.
Jung qualified in the 200-yard butterfly with a fifth place time of 1:52.42.
In the 3-meter diving event, freshman Jordan Baker was the top Explorer with a total score of 232.75, good for ninth place.
