PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University's Morgan Robertson has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team, it was announced Thursday. Robertson, a junior forward on the women's basketball team, will now move on to the national ballot and have a chance to be voted an Academic All-American - which would be La Salle's fourth all-time.

For the season, Robertson leads the Explorers in a number of categories including points per game (12.5 pg), rebounds (8.5 pg), and shooting percentage (44.4%), and carries a 3.87 GPA while pursuing a dual major in political science and psychology. She has reached double figures in points in 16 games and in rebounds 10 times.

She has nine double-doubles this season, which is second among Atlantic 10 Conference players and, since La Salle has been a member of the league, is second-most in a single-season at the school. Since 1984-85 season (research still in the process), her nine this year is the third-most ever by an Explorer as Jenny McGowan holds the record with 11 during the 1992-93 season, and Chrissie Donahue’s 10 in 1996-97, is the most since La Salle has been in the A-10.

Her season has also included setting career-highs in points (22 - against Delaware, Nov. 19) and rebounds (19 - versus Radford, Nov. 29), which was also three shy of the school record. Her 8.5 rebound per game average is currently better than any Explorer since Mary Heller averaged 8.7 per game during the 1993-94 season.

She has been named Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week once each (Dec. 22), and has been named to a pair of All-Tournament Teams - the St. Mary's Hilton-Concord Thanksgiving Classic (Nov. 29) and Lehigh's Christmas City Classic (Dec. 30).

Twice, she has been on the foul line with the game in her hands and helped La Salle to the victory. With 33 seconds left against Lafayette (Dec. 16), she sank two free throws to break a 57-all tie, and at Fordham (Jan. 24), she hit a pair with nine ticks left to turn a one-point deficit into a one-point win.

Among A-10 players, Robertson is 12th in scoring, sixth in rebounding, seventh in free throw shooting (79.5%), 10th in offensive rebounds (2.41), and sixth in defensive rebounds (6.14). She is also among the top 100 rebounders in the nation, currently sitting 83rd in per game average in the latest NCAA release.

In order to be eligible for the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and be at least a sophomore in school. The national ballot will consist of the first team honorees from each of eight districts around the country. The basketball Academic All-America teams will be announced later this year.

The other members of the District 2 First Team along with Robertson were Liz Repella (West Virginia), Joyce Novacek (Bucknell), Maria Getty (Villanova), and Jennifer Bender (Monmouth).

La Salle Women’s Basketball has had three players earn four Academic All-American honors. Mary Greybush was the first, in 1991 earning a Third Team selection, followed by a pair by Jenn Cole, in 1992, First Team, and 1993, Second Team. The last was Jen Zenszer in 2001, who earned a Third Team selection.

Last year, Melanie Gibbons earned Academic All-Region District 2 Second Team, which was the Explorers first honor since Zenser in 2001.
