KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Freshman Shannon Skomorucha belted a two-RBI single to cap a three-run third inning, but the Explorers (0-4) fell 8-3 to Eastern Kentucky. They lost to Yale 11-0 in five innings in the nightcap.
Eastern Kentucky (8-8) got on the board with three runs in the top of the third but the Explorers quickly answered that in the bottom of the same inning. Gina Massaro reached on a lead-off walk and advanced to second on an Ali Shepherd single up the middle before a throwing miscue sent her to third. Mary Pat Conville singled in Massaro for the Explorers' first score before Skomorucha's two-out single through the center on a 2-0 count.
The Colonels responded with the game-winning score in the top of the fourth. Kalyn Fox belted a double and scored on Diane Gallagher's single to left center.
The Colonels iced the game with a three-run fifth en route to the final 8-3 score.
Yale (3-3) came out swinging in the nightcap as they took an 11-0 decision in five innings from the Explorers. The Bulldogs opened scoring with four first-inning runs and added six more in the third.
The Explorers came closest to putting a score on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Angelina Bisbiglia led off with a walk and advanced to third when rookie Breanna DiTommasso belted a two-out double, but the Explorers could not capitalize.
Alicia De La Rosa added La Salle's other hit, a single in the second inning.
The Explorers have Thursday off and return to the diamond on Friday with two games. They take on Maine at 1:00 PM and Youngstown State at 5:00 PM.
