Team Leader: Stefany McKee

March 4, 2009

With a lacrosse team containing no seniors, junior co-captain Stefany McKee wants to be a leader for her fellow underclassmen. To her, this leadership mentality will be portrayed on the field.

McKee finished her sophomore campaign and the 2008 season ranked second on the team in both goals (32) and points (35). During this successful season, she went on to record a career-high five goals against Louisville. With so much success heading into the 2009 season, McKee begins her third year as an Explorer with no one ahead of her in terms of grade level. McKee, Jill Davis, Elizabeth Iacullo and Dorothy Schalleur are the only four juniors on the squad and the top four upperclassmen.

“With no seniors, it will force everyone to take on a bigger role,” said McKee. “Everyone will need to step up their game.”

Through two games this season, McKee leads the team with three goals and five shots on goal. All three goals came against Drexel on Wednesday, February 25. With such a long and competitive schedule, McKee has one game in particular that she is looking forward to.

“I am excited for our home game against Le Moyne because it is located in Syracuse, NY and I am from that area.”

Even with starting the season off so well on an individual basis, McKee would like to see the team improve as a whole.

“Leadership will be a key,” said the junior co-captain on what she would like to see as the season progresses.

McKee wants to be a leader and the way she has conducted herself both on and off the field, it is easy to say that she has already taken on that role.
