PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle track and field team competed at the Widener Invitational over the course of Friday and Saturday with several high-ranking times achieved.
Redshirt freshman Ray Coles, who is running unattached this season, raced to a second place finish in his first collegiate 10K race. He clocked a 33:19.39. Mark Del Monaco finished just behind him in third place with a time of 33:36.20.
Terence McPeak ran to a sixth place finish out of 50 competitors in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:01.49.
Michael George and Jared Davis both competed in the 100 meter dash, finishing second and fifth respectively. George clocked an 11.45, with Davis just behind in 11.53.
Several Explorer men ran the 800 meters, led by David Laratta's first place time of 1:53.81 out of 58 runners. Rollin Deas finished fifth overall with a 1:55.30 mark. Joe Fedorowicz, Colin Barrett and Jake Dylik rounded out the top five Explorers with times of 1:58.34, 1:58.38 and 1:58.80, respectively.
On the hurdles, Ozzie Henderson clocked a 56.85 to finish third in section 1.
Orestes Medina and Andrew Maxwell led the Explorer field squad with a fifth and seventh place showing, respectively, out of 30 competitors in the long jump. Medina hit 6.57 meters while Maxwell jumped 6.44 meters.
On the women's side, Meaghan Hobson blitzed past the competition in the 800 meter run to easily take first out of 47 overall. She ran a 2:13.75, more than five seconds better than the second place overall time that was ran by Kellilyn Fierras. Fierras clocked a 2:19.03 for second.
Jalessa Graham snagged a pair of second place finishes in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. She ran a 12.62 in the 100m and 25.78 in the 200m, both for second place in her section. Kyla Jones also competed in both of those races, earning a 12.75 in the 100m and 26.69 in the 200m. Lolita Thomas also had the opportunity to run both races as well, clocking a 13.12 and 26.64, respectively.
Rookie Caroline Grant ran a strong 18:38.03 in the 5,000 meter run for seventh out of 24 in section 1 of the event. Classmate Nicole Shiavone also ran the race with a personal record of 19:15.97.
Maureen Benner, who ran the 1,500 meter run, clocked a 4:51.88 for fifth place overall out of 46 runners.
Lauren McGuire led the women's field squad with a third place showing in the hammer throw. She threw 37.74 meters.
The Explorers are back in action starting Thursday as they head to the University of Pennsylvania for the historic Penn Relays at Franklin Field. The Penn Relays span Thursday through Saturday. The team will also spend time at the Lions Invitational at The College of New Jersey on Friday and Saturday.
