Rainford Qualifies for NCAA Regional at Swarthmore Last Chance Meet

PHILADELPHIA - Top times abound at the Swarthmore Last Chance meet as Trevon Rainford hit an NCAA regional mark and David Laratta qualified for the Junior Nationals.

Rainford punched his ticket to the regional meet in Greensboro, N.C., with a 3:46.34 in the 1,500 meter run. He finished fourth out of 63 runners in a race that saw seven regional times and 11 IC4A times.

Laratta earned a trip to the Junior Nationals with a 3:55.89 in the 1,500 meters. He finished 18th overall in the race.

Also strong for the Explorer men was Kevin Buell, who won his heat of the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:17.77. His time was good for 13th overall out of 38 runners.

On the women's side, freshman Samantha Gallagher improved upon her 3,000 meter steeplechase time with a 10:58.25. Her time ranks as the second best all-time mark at La Salle in the event, behind Christa Plummer's mark.

Kellilyn Fierras and Emily Paffett also ran strong races in the 800 meter run as both hit season-best times. Fierras placed 14th overall out of 32 runners with a time of 2:15.25 with Paffett just behind in 2:16.00 for 18th. Meaghan Hobson was also in the race as she finished 2:13.43 for ninth place.

Maureen Benner also won her heat of the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:49.43.

The Explorers head to Princeton on Friday as they kick off the ECAC/IC4A Championships. The meet will be held from May 15-17.
