PHILADELPHIA - Three La Salle track athletes head to the NCAA East Regional meet on Friday and Saturday at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C. Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year Christa Plummer will run the 5K, while Korey Edwards and Trevon Rainford will compete in the 1,500 meters.
The preliminaries of the men's 1,500 meters will be run at 4:55 PM, while the women's 5,000 meter run starts at 9:20 PM.
All three student-athletes bring an impressive resume to Greensboro. Plummer earned Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year honors during the outdoor season as she took the conference crown in both the 5K and 10K races. She also came in second at the ECAC Championship two weeks ago. The senior also provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet in the 10K at the Stanford Invitational on March 27th, and ran three regional qualifying times in the 5K (Penn Relays, Atlantic 10, ECAC). During the indoor season, Plummer successfully defended her 3,000 meter title. She also earned Academic All-Conference honors for both the indoor and outdoor seasons for her success on the track and in the classroom.
Edwards ran his NCAA regional qualifying mark in the 1,500 meters at the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 17 as he ran a 3:46.91, his best time of the season. He competed in the IC4A Championship two weeks ago, where he clocked his best 800 meter time of the season. He was also the second leg of the Explorers' school-record-breaking 4x800 meter relay squad at IC4A's. At the Atlantic 10 meet, Edwards placed fourth in the conference in the 1,500. He is also the reigning indoor 1,000 meter champ.
Rainford's regional qualifying time in the 1,500 meter run came at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on May 11. There he clocked a 3:46.34 to punch his ticket to the regional meet, beating his previous season-best time by more than five seconds. Most recently, he was the anchor for the 4x800 meter squad that broke the school record in the preliminaries and then broke its newly-set record in the finals of the event at the IC4A's. Earlier this season, he ran an IC4A qualifying time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Larry Ellis Invitational.
