May 29, 2009

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Christa Plummer ran her best 5,000 meter race of the season to finish 13th in the region and lead the Explorers at the NCAA East Regional meet at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C., on Friday evening.

Plummer ran a 16:36.56, besting her previous season mark by two seconds. She raced out to a quick start and found herself among the top 10 racers before falling back to around 20th place. She moved up to 13th with a fast last mile of the race.

Plummer will find out on Monday if she qualifies for nationals in either the 5K or the 10K, as she hit the provisional mark in the 10K earlier this season.

Korey Edwards and Trevon Rainford both ran in the 1,500 meter preliminaries on Friday. Edwards clocked a 3:52.30 to place fourth in his heat and 22nd overall out of 42. Rainford ran a 3:54.54 to place sixth in his heat, which featured the three fastest times of the day.
