Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Inquirer recently announced its 2009 Academic All-Area teams and senior Chris Butera was elected to the Academic All-Area Men’s Tennis Team.

Butera, who is accompanied by six other student-athletes from the Philadelphia area, was one of only three seniors to be named and posted the second-highest grade point average (GPA), 3.87.

The Mason, OH native recorded an 11-5 singles record and 3-1 doubles record during the 2008-09 season. Earlier in the academic year, Butera was named to the Dean’s List, Fall 2008 Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Spring 2009 Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The Men’s Tennis program, with the help of Butera, was recognized by the University for having the highest men’s team GPA for the 2008 Fall semester (2.95) at the annual Student-Athlete Academic Recognition Ceremony in April.

Butera graduated in the spring of 2009 with a degree in Accounting.

The Academic All-Area Men’s Tennis Team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
