PHILADELPHIA - Philly soccer is getting underway on Saturday with the annual Soccer Six Play-Day, which features La Salle in the first scrimmage of the day at 3:00 PM. The event, held at Saint Joseph's Finnessy Field this year, includes scrimmages between all six Division I schools in Philadelphia.
The Explorers will face off against Villanova at 3:00 PM, with Drexel and Temple to follow at 5:00 PM. The host Hawks square off against 2008 Soccer Six champion Penn in the nightcap at 7:00 PM.
Senior captain and 2008 team MVP Ryan Tadley will lead the young Explorer squad against the Wildcats, who feature all-Big East senior Michael Seamon. The Explorers also return to strong sophomores in midfielder Dan Korenyi - the 2008 team Rookie of the Year - and Tom Kalpokas, who scored three goals against No. 9 Saint Louis and No. 20 Charlotte last season.
The Explorers' regular season kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 1, with a trip to Bucknell for a 7:00 PM contest.
