La Salle Back In Win Column With 3-1 Decision Over Vermont

Sept. 13, 2009

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - One game after notching her first collegiate goal, Erin Brennan scored the game winner to put La Salle Women's Soccer back in the win column with a 3-1 victory over visiting Vermont at McCarthy Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Ally Kenney and Traci DePasquale - who continue to jockey for the team lead in goals, assists, and points - each put a ball in the back of the net and added an assist to help the Explorers get the win.

Entering the 2009 season, Kenney had four goals and five assists in her career (58 games), and has now matched that output in just eight matches this season. She put home her fourth goal of the season off a corner kick from DePasquale, which was headed by Lauren Barker, to give La Salle a 1-0 advantage just 5:23 into the game.

That score remained until the 79th minute when Kenney sent a cross from the left side to the far right side of the box. Amanda Komarnicki settled and passed it left to Brennan, who put it into the far left of the net to put the Explorers up 2-0.

It was Brennan's second tally in as many games, Komarnicki's first collegiate point, and for Kenney, it was her fifth assist of 2009 - second on the team - to go with her team-high four goals and a team-high 13 points.

Vermont (0-4-1) cut its deficit to one with a tally from Jessica Becker with less than four minutes remaining in the contest.

The Explorers answered back just two minutes later - with 1:06 left - as Morgan Golden crossed a ball from the left side, which rolled through the box. DePasquale raced to it and scored the insurance goal.

For DePasquale, it was her fourth of the season, pulling her into a tie with Kenney for the team-lead, and it pushed her to 14 points for the season, now the team lead. She also now has 24 goals and 24 points in her Explorer career.

La Salle (5-2-1) will have a week off before returning to the field next Sunday as the Explorers host Delaware at McCarthy Stadium with a 1 PM kickoff.
