PHILADELPHIA - Strong swims at the Rhode Island Invitational this past weekend were recognized by the Atlantic 10 Conference, as Shannon Duval was named Performer of the Week and Blase Szyszko earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors.
Duval's weekend was highlighted by setting a pool record in the 200 yard breaststroke. She picked up three first place finishes in the two day meet, as was part of two winning relay squads. Duval captured gold in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events as well as the 200 yard individual medley, with times of 1:05.54, 2:18.41 and 2:07.61, respectively.
Szyszko also put together a strong weekend as he won two events and helped the 400 yard medley relay squad to second place. He posted the only sub-minute time in the 100-yard breaststroke in clocking a 59.78 for the win, and swam a 2:09.09 in his winning 200-yard breaststroke.
Duval, Szyszko and the rest of the Explorers return to action on Saturday (1/23) when they host Fordham in Kirk Pool starting at 1:00 PM.
