Duval and Szyszko Capture A-10 Honors For Second Straight Week

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Shannon Duval and freshman Blase Szyszko were named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. Duval swam to three first place finishes, including a new Kirk Pool record, in the Senior Day meet against Fordham. Szyszko earned two golds and a relay win to help lift the men's squad past Fordham.

Duval's 200 yard breaststroke time of 2:15.51 bested the previous Kirk Pool record as she captured gold in the event. The Trinidad & Tobago native also swam a winning time of 1:04.64 in the 100 yard breaststroke, and blasted past the competition in the 200 yard individual medley with a 2:06.36. The award was her fourth of the season.

Szyszko earned the third Atlantic 10 honor of his career by winning two individual events and a relay to lift the men's team past Fordham, 180-118. He once again swam the only sub-minute 100 yard breaststroke time with a mark of 58.34 seconds. The rookie from Bensalem, PA, also won the 200 yard breaststroke again this week with a time of 2:09.78. He was the second leg of the winning 200 yard medley relay squad that won with a time of 1:35.59, edging out the Fordham 'A' relay squad by less than one second.

Duval, Szyszko and the rest of the Explorers are back in action on Saturday when they host their final meet of the season. The meet against St. Francis (PA) kicks off at 1:00 PM in Kirk Pool.
