The La Salle Explorers will host the Princeton Tigers in their final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The Explorers have now won three of their previous five games heading into Tuesday’s matinee.
Jamie Walsh led all scorers with a season-best 18 points in Saturday’s home victory over Big 5 rival Penn, 67-51. Morgan Robertson also reached double figures in the contest, ending with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. As a team, the Explorers dished out 22 assists and outscored the Quakers in the paint (30-24) and in bench points (19-14). La Salle was effective from the field as they finished the game shooting 51 percent from the floor and 41.2 percent from three.
The Explorers improve to 32-5 in the all-time series against Penn including 15 straight at home.
Princeton Tigers (11-2)
Conference: Ivy League
The Princeton Tigers, like the Explorers, will compete in their final non-conference game of the season when they visit Tom Gola Arena on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers post the best overall record in the Ivy League and enter Tuesday’s matchup riding on a six-game winning streak.
The Tigers are coming off a 75-61 road victory over Fordham on Saturday. Addie Micir led four Tigers in double figures with 20 points and seven rebounds. Micir is currently ranked second on the team in scoring (13.8 ppg), assists (32) and three-point percentage (.476).
Princeton, who led 43-24 at the half, had the advantage in points off turnovers (26-16) and also outscored the Rams in bench points (18-8).
The Tigers lead the all-time series against La Salle, 4-1.
Eye on an Explorer: Ashley Gale
Ashley Gale filled the stat sheet on Saturday with totals of eight points, six boards, four assists, a block and a steal. In her last four games, she is averaging 10.3 points per game. Gale is ranked second on the team in rebounding (4.8) and third in scoring (7.8) and assists (28).
Key Matchup: Morgan Robertson vs. Niveen Rasheed
Tuesday’s contest will feature a frontcourt matchup which boasts the top scorer and rebounder from each team. La Salle senior forward Morgan Robertson and Princeton freshman forward Niveen Rasheed will go head-to-head inside the paint. Robertson (10.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg) posted her first double-double of the season against Monmouth (12/30) when she finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Rasheed (17.2 ppg, 7.7 rpg) leads the Ivy League in scoring and is a five-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
