PHILADELPHIA - Freshman goalkeeper John McCarthy has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. This marks the second straight week that McCarthy picked up the A-10 rookie award.

McCarthy helped lead the Explorers to a 2-1 win over Fordham in both teams' Atlantic 10 opener on Friday night. He picked up his third straight win between the posts, registering six saves and holding off the Rams despite facing 16 shots.

His .849 save percentage puts him at second in the Atlantic 10, just behind Xavier's Justin Marshall. He is also tied for third in the conference in saves, with 45. He also has registered three shutouts this season, with a pair of 1-0 La Salle wins and a scoreless double overtime tie at then Mid-Atlantic No. 5 Lehigh.

McCarthy and the rest of the Explorers return to action on Friday night when they host St. Bonaventure at 7:00 PM.
