Men's Swimming & Diving Grabs Win Against Villanova; Women Fall

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The men’s swimming & diving team kicked off its season with a win against Villanova, 162-78, while the women’s squad came up short against the Wildcats, 147-90.

In his first meet as an Explorer, Charlie Zettel picked up first place finishes in the 200 IM and 200-fly and also helped the men’s 400-medley relay to the top spot.

Zach Anderson and newcomer Greg Fischer went 1-2 in the 1000-free, with each swimming a 9:53.34 and 9:57.24, respectively.  Anderson would go on to take second in the 500-free, with Fischer finishing third in that same event.

Cameron Cabrera finished first in the 200-free in his collegiate debut with a time of 1.43.45.  Dave Derr took the 100-free in 47.90, while Cabrera came in second.

Austin Thomas nabbed first in the 50-free, with Kyle Goan taking second. 

Ed Carnes won the 200-back with a time of 1:56.27.

Jordan Baker took both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions.

On the women’s side, the La Salle squad of Elizabeth Jordan, Aubrey Cefalo, Katie Snee and Jessica Carbin took first in the 400-free relay.

Holly Biro, the La Salle record-holder in the 100-free, picked up a first-place finish in the event.  She also came in second in the 50-free. 

Snee turned in solid individual performances in her first collegiate meet, with a second-place finish in the 100-free and a third-place finish in the 50-free.

Jessica Simunek took the 200-breast in 2:25.46, with teammates Marci Wixted and Megan Baylis clocking third and fourth place finishes, respectively.

On the diving side, Laurie McLaughlin turned in a third place performance in the 3-meter event.

The Explorers will welcome Drexel to Kirk pool tomorrow for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
