La Salle Rows Strong at Head of the Schuylkill

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle rowing team returned to home waters on Saturday as the Explorers competed in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. Three boats posted top five finishes in a strong day for the squad.

The women's novice four boat captured bronze in its race, clocking an 18:22.68. The race was spread apart time-wise, with Villanova winning in 16:52.43, Hamilton College placing second with a 17:10.23 and the Explorers besting the fourth place boat (Army) by well over a minute.

The men's novice four boat also placed in the top five, coming in fourth out of 20 boats with a time of 16:06.2, just one-tenth of a second behind third-place Army. Penn won the race in 15:18.24, followed by Washington College.

The men's novice eight boat was the Explorers' third top-five finish as the rowers raced to fourth place out of 25 boats. The Explorers rowed a 14:12.21. Princeton won the race in 13:24.19, followed by Penn and Drexel.

Also racing were the men's varsity four and women's novice eight boats, both of which finished in the top half of their races. The men's V4 placed 12th out of 30 teams with a time of 15:50.5, edging out Drexel by 1.22 seconds. The women's novice eight placed 11th out of 26, with a time of 17:24.24.

The Explorers are back in action next Saturday (11/6) when the women compete at the Head of the Occoquan in Virginia.
