Explorer Women Capture A-10 Silver; Men Finish Fifth

PITTSBURGH, PA - Stephanie Bearish and Caitlin Storbeck ran top 10 times to earn all-conference honors and propel the Explorer women to second place in the team standings at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship at Pittsburgh's Schenley Park on Saturday morning.

The Explorer women, ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, had all five scorers in the top 20 and finished with 68 points for the team silver to best their preseason prediction of fourth. Bearish placed fifth individually, running a 17:35 on the 5,000 meter course. Storbeck clocked a 17:52 for 10th place.

Wendy Hutchinson was the third Explorer, capturing a time of 18:12 for 16th, with Meghan Lutz one second behind in 17th.

Rounding out the Explorer scoring was Samantha Gallagher, who ran an 18:17 for 20th. Also running were Meghan McGlinchey (31st; 18:28) and Anne Areias (37th; 18:40).

Richmond captured the women's title, while George Washington's Megan Hogan defended her individual title. Rounding out the top five teams were Dayton (3rd), Saint Louis (4th) as well as a tie for fifth between Charlotte and Duquesne.

Dave Hausherr was the top finisher on the men's side, running a 25:07 on the 8K course for 17th place to lead the Explorers to fifth as a team. Nick Crits was right behind in 18th with a 25:10 and Tom Pannulla rounded out the top three with a 25:27 for 24th place.

Also running were Sean Ward (31st; 25:33), Nick Ross (43rd; 25:47), Alex Brazinski (48th; 25:55) and Nico Greco (54th; 25:59).

Richmond also won the men's title behind Andrew Benford's individual championship as well as Matt Llano's third place. Duquesne finished second, with UMass, Dayton and La Salle rounding out the top five.
